BC Child and Youth in Care Awards  

NOMINATION OPEN: APRIL 12, 2019

Now in its ninth year, BCCYICW celebrates and acknowledges the resiliency, diversity, talents and accomplishments of young people in and from government care and their challenging journey.

Nominate one of these amazing children for an awards to be given out during BCCYICW June 3-9.

​ Fill out the nomination  form and submit it and any questions to mcf.YAC@gov.bc.ca 

Awards will be given out this year in age groups of 6-12, 13-18 and 19- 24 years of age. 

There will be one recipient in each category for each age group. 

Nomination Categories:
1) Achievement in Education
     * a child, youth or young adult who has excelled in their educational goals or who has demonstrated improvement in Education

2) Achievement in Athletics
     * a child, youth or young adult who has excelled in the pursuit of athletic activities and or has demonstrated improvement in Athletics

3) Achievement in Leadership
     * a child, youth or young adult who  demonstrates leadership in home, school or community life.

4) Cultural Connectedness
     * a child, youth or young adult who is connected to their cultural community through language learning, dance, artistic pursuits,       
        volunteering or ceremonies.


5) Achievement in Art
     * a child, youth or young adult who is connected to the arts community through participation in creating art, performance, writing,  dance,  drama or spoken word.

6) Powerful Young Parent

      * a young adult who is recognized for their role as a caregivers/parents themselves

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Who Can Nominate a Young Person?
A: Award candidates may be nominated by MCFD staff, Delegated Aboriginal Agency staff, community partners and groups, foster parents, peers and individuals.

Q: When will nominator be advised who has been selected?
A: Nominators will be advised May 9, 2019.

Q: Can nominators submit multiple nominations?
A: Yes!

Q: Are peer nominations accepted? If so, can an adult help to complete the form?
A: Yes! We absolutely encourage peers to nominate each other.

Q: Are nominators required to inform the youth they are submitting their name?
A: Yes, please inform the child, youth or young adult who you are nominating.  This is a great opportunity to build your relationship with the nominee and to recognize their awesomeness!

Q: What is the prize?
A: All nominees will receive a certificate to acknowledge their amazing contribution.  Up to 6 young people in each age group will receive an award and gift. 

Q: Who chooses the winners?
A: Winners will be chosen by a committee of youth and adults (internal and external to MCFD).

Q: How many awards are being given in total?
A: There will be at least 18 awards given.
